The Community Outreach Mural

The Vista La Mesa Christian Church brought their parishioners together for a group project that would beautify their parking lot. They would paint a 75′ long mural on a large wall.

Churchgoers of all ages brainstormed images they wanted to include in the mural, such as the nearby ocean and mountains, a rainbow, doves, Jesus teaching children, and more. Once a design was finalized, and the wall was pressure-cleaned and primed, I sketched and painted the basic background onto the wall, preparing it for the volunteers.

Over the weekend members of the congregation flocked to the church parking lot, wearing their Sunday worst. Six-year-olds worked alongside 66-year-olds. Everyone grabbed a brush and a color and expressed their artistic side while I stayed busy passing out colors and brushes.

After the weekend I added final touches to the hard-to-reach areas of the 15′ tall mural.

The finished mural was dedicated at Sunday service on Mother’s Day.
